The Wonderful & Bizarre World of Sharmanka
If you ever find yourself in Glasgow city centre and are looking for something a bit different to do, Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre could be the place for you.
Sharmanka (which is Russian for barrel organ) is a theatre full of amazing and bizarre moving sculptures made from junk materials. They were all made by the artist Eduard Bersudsky, who is originally from St. Petersburg, but has lived in Glasgow for many years now.
During a show, the audience moves round watching the sculptures one by one as they come alive. Each is a performance with accompanying music and coloured lighting, which makes the overall effect stunning. Some sculptures are solemn and thought-provoking, whilst others are more light-hearted and humorous.
As I saw the shorter show, I didn't get to see all of the sculptures in action, so I'd love to go back and see the rest!
